Congressman John Hostettler (R-Ind.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Claims, announced yesterday that one of the House of Representatives' field hearings on national border security will be held in Evansville.
The hearing, slated for Aug. 29, at The Centre in Downtown Evansville is one of 21 immigration hearings to be held around the U.S. during the August recess for Congress.
Hostettler's office said the hearing is intended to solicit comments on a controversial U.S. Senate bill known as the Reid- Kennedy Bill. The bill contains provisions regarding amnesty proposals for undocumented workers and address issues involving local law-enforcement's role in dealing with illegal immigrants.
