The term "home health agency" refers to a company that provides health care services in a person's residence. A residence can be the patient's own home, the home of a family member or an assisted living center that does not provide skilled services. Home Health Agencies do not provide services in a hospital or nursing home setting. They must be licensed by the state in which they provide services. Many agencies are also certified to provide services under the Medicare program. They may provide skilled nursing services, physical, speech, and occupational therapies, medical social services, or home health aide services.
