Historical Documents In Collapsed Building

New Media Producer: Kerry Corum

The weather may also be to blame for a building collapse in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. A building with some very important information inside.

"I couldn't believe it. I was like, all that work and oh my God, all those records are gone."

That was just some of the reaction from volunteers who oversee Posey County's historical documents.

They volunteer because they see daily the value these documents hold for different people walking through the door.

People like Matt who came here trying to trace his roots. But he ended up with a lot more. "I found some interesting information, and understood that this cousin that I had heard about, worked for the historical society, and here he is. I'm meeting him for the first time."

The building also stores documentation for the historical society. An inspector will have to give the okay before anyone is allowed to go inside to see what's been damaged or destroyed.
