Final Public Time Zone Hearing Monday

New Media Producer: Kerry Corum

The final public hearing on where to draw time zone lines in Indiana will be held in South Bend Monday evening.

The hearing will be held on the campus of Indiana University-South Bend starting at 5:00 PM.

The hearing is being held by the US Department of Transportation on requests by St. Joseph and Marshall Counties to move to the Central Time Zone. That would put the city of South Bend in a different time zone than neighboring Elkhart.

The US Department of Transportation is also accepting comments by mail, fax and on their Web site. So far, the federal government has received more than 2500 comments.

A final decision is expected to come from the Transportation Department in January.

A fundraiser for the Henry family who lost their three children after a house fire in July did more than just raise money, it was inspiring.  Neighbors from the Fordsville area congregated at the Fordsville Volunteer Fire Department this afternoon to show support for the Henry family. To some it was a very emotional day, for others it was inspiring to see John and Christin Henry.
