Monday Tornado Update, Indiana Homeland Security

Situation:   

Two confirmed tornadoes in Vanderburgh County (Evansville, IN) and Warrick County.

Statewide damage assessment under way.

 

Situation Report by County:

Vanderburgh County

  • 125 homes destroyed
  • 150 homes major damage

Warrick County

  • 60 homes destroyed in Boonville area
  • 150 homes destroyed in Newburgh area

 

Outages: 

Approximately 5,400 customers without power in Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties

 

Indiana Michigan Power Company reports approximately 6,500 without electricity (6,400 in Fort Wayne area, 70 in Muncie, and 35 in South Bend)

Indiana State EOC Activated at 0500 Hrs. EST.

Indiana Department of Homeland Security 

  • 25 personnel deployed

Indiana Department of Transportation 

Indiana State Police   

  • 21 troopers deployed       

Indiana National Guard 

  • 155 Guard members assisting with the recovery efforts in Warrick and Vanderburgh Counties

Task Force One

·         34 members deployed with equipment for extrication and heavy rescue support to Evansville

                       

Injuries/Fatalities: 

·         200 total confirmed treated at St Mary’s and Deaconess Hospitals

·         15 critical/life threatening injuries

·         22 Fatalities:  17 confirmed from the Eastbrook Mobile Home Park in Evansville and 5 confirmed in Warrick County

 

Shelters:

  • Zion Church in Newburg- On Stand-by
  • Castle High School – Closed
  • Crossroads Christian Church – Unknown #

Vanderburgh County

  • Army Reserve Center – 75+
