VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) - Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding has been named Sheriff of the Year in Indiana.
Wedding got the award at the sheriff's summer conference in French Lick on Thursday. Wedding was also elected President of the Indiana Sheriffs Association for next year.
Every year one sheriff is chosen from a pool of 92 sheriffs across Indiana.
"It is an honor to win the award, after so many years in it I have worked hard to try and affect change, not only for our office but offices around the state," Sheriff Wedding explained. "For many years sheriffs offices have worked with anemic staffing levels, overcrowded jails and no one has stepped up to address these issues. I have personally help lead the charge to change the way sheriffs offices are treated by our state government."
Sheriff Wedding credits having an excellent staff to manage the day to day business while he is away at the statehouse.
