DUBOIS CO., IN (WFIE) - Two people have been arrested in connection with the 2017 murder of Darin Atkins.
According to court officials, Jason Atkins, of Birdseye, Indiana, and Sarah Andry of Eckerty, Indiana, were arrested Monday. They are both currently in jail without bond.
Jason is being charged with murder while Andry is also charged with aiding, inducing, or causing murder.
The body of 49-year-old Darin Atkins was found back in July 2017 at his home near Birdseye, Indiana. According to the coroner says Atkins died from internal bleeding in his head and multiple skull fractures caused by force from a large blunt object.
Prior to the arrests of Jason and Andry, the sheriff's office had said they were working through a long list of suspects because 10 of Darin's friends were at the home with his dead body before police were even called.
According to an affidavit, it was "widely known" in Birdseye that the victim and suspects were involved in a love triangle. The affidavit says Andry was the long-time girlfriend of Darin Atkins but "went back and forth between him and Jason" over past three years.
The lead detective on this case Tom Kleinhelter said he was overwhelmed with the community support and sheer number of tips the sheriff's office received in this case.
"I am very proud to say that we probably received well over 100 tips in this case and each and every tip was followed up on and either dismissed or investigated to its fullest," explains Detective Kleinhelter.
Both Jason and Andry are due back in court for a pre-trial conference on June 26.
