HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) - Two people were killed in a crash on Monday in Hopkins County.
It happened early Monday in front of 3685 Nebo Road.
According to the sheriff's office, 27-year-old Aaron Utterback, of Madisonville, was driving southbound on Nebo Road at a high speed. His vehicle left the shoulder and entered a grassy area before re-entering the northbound lane and hitting 70-year-old Mary Turner, of Dixon.
Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield pronounced both Utterback and Turner dead at the scene.
"They go extremely fast – sometimes there are cars that go so fast, I can't even get a glimpse of it. It's ridiculous," neighbor Natalie Virge explained while talking about traffic patterns.
Virge has lived along Nebo Road for a decade, and says the stretch of road is notorious for wrecks. She thinks it'll take reducing the speed limit and widening the road to prevent more crashes. She won't even let her kids play in the front yard anymore, after rushing to help car crash victims in the past.
"I think it's a great idea and would help a lot," Virge added.
The sheriff's office, Madisonville police, Madisonville fire, and Manitou fire responded to the scene.
Nebo Road was closed from Rainwater Lane to Manitou Road while crews worked the scene. The road has since reopened.
