GRAYVILLE, IL (WFIE) - A 54-acre campground and recreation area are in the works in the Tri-State.
Rest Up Camping and RV Corral is located just off Interstate 64 in White County, IL.
Developers hope to take visitors from the Midwest to the old west.
"We just like Old West and old western movies, and so we just thought it would be a fun thing to have it themed when this thing started evolving," said owner Melinda Clark.
Clark and her husband, Mike, are camping enthusiasts.
"We fell in love with it from the get-go."
The town of Westwood was inspired by Melinda's late father who wanted to build a place for families to enjoy.
"Dad always had a huge heart and he gave to a big part of the community and he wanted to do that."
On the property, guests will enjoy a restaurant, event hall, playground, miniature golf course, and even a barbershop.
"We're going to have a big electronic shooting gallery in this corner. Back there is our photo studio where you can do Old West photos," said Westwood Sheriff Joe Hillenbrand.
Other features in the works include a bank, ice cream parlor, and splash pad.
Owners plan to employ approximately 30-35 full and part-time workers once it is open. They have also managed to hire construction companies close to home.
"Using the majority of our contractors as being local, that was a big deal to us too," said Clark.
With the initial opening, owners said they plan to have approximately 50 camping sites available for rent, with more than 200 spots in the future. Westwood should be open early this summer.
