EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Locally, three Republicans are vying for the Vanderburgh County Commissioner seat in District 2.

This was a close race. Mike Duckworth took home 43 percent of the votes, while Steve Hammer right behind with 36 percent, and Vernon Stevens finishing third.

Duckworth arrived a little late to the party, but received a standing ovation from the crowd here when he walked in. He choked up in tears when speaking about all the work people put in for his campaign.

He says it was a $100,000 race for three of the candidates, which is a lot for a primary.

Keep in mind there is nobody on the democratic ballot, so party chairman Scott Danks will have to appoint someone to run against Duckworth for November.
