WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) - A brother and sister in Warrick County were honored for their quick-thinking and life-saving actions.
Ryan Daywalt and his sister, Leslie Smith, were on their way back to the Tri-State from a family vacation in Florida. Not long into the trip, they say a car veered off the road right in front of them.
Immediately, they knew something was wrong and pulled over to help.
With the help of another bystander, they say they busted the car window to get to the victim and noticed she wasn't breathing. Right away, the two began performing CPR until paramedics arrived.
At the time, they say they didn't know how serious the incident was but knew she needed help.
The two later found out, the victim was in cardiac arrest, and they saved her life.
The American Heart Association presented Ryan and Leslie each a Heartsaver Hero award for their quick-thinking.
American Heart Association officials tell us only about 10% survive a heart attack outside the hospital, so knowing CPR is crucial.3
