EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - A great west-side rivalry match up as Mater Dei and Reitz are set to battle for the West Side Nut Club trophy.
The Mater Dei Wildcats come into this game at 5-3 on the season, ending the regular season with a tough 7-1 Reitz team, who wants this win badly. The Wildcats understand the hype of the rivalry, but they are extremely focused on getting the win.
Head coach of the Wildcats Mike Goebel knows the talent on this Reitz team and says they have been prepping for them all week.
"I [Mike] am so impressed with their offensive line they are big, they block, they maintain their blocks and that has caused havoc for anyone who plays them, defensively they are a bunch of marauders, they come and attack," explained Wildcats coach Goebel.
As for Reitz, they are playing for the SIAC and city titles, so this match up is a must win. Head to head, Reitz leads the all-time series 45-20 and they are looking to increase that lead.
Head coach of the Panthers Andy Hape knows the Wildcats will be ready to go, and they can never under estimate a Goebel squad.
"The one thing that I [Andy] have learned over the last four or five years is that Mater Dei is never down, I truly believe it is going to come down to the guys who are going to make plays," explained Panthers coach Hape.
Now that game gets under way at 7 p.m. and the Reitz Bowl should be rocking come kickoff.
