EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. A special ceremony was being held in Evansville to raise awareness.
It s happened at the University of Southern Indiana. It was the 5th annual "Flowers on the Lake" presentation at USI.
The event is intended to encourage people to speak up about domestic violence. Students spoke about people who lost their lives to domestic violence.
Speeches were followed by a moment of silence. Guest scattered flower petals on Reflection Lake in honor of survivors and in memory of victims.
The presentation is put on every year by USI's Sexual Assault Gender Violence Prevention committee.
"To some people, it may be embarrassing, and they may not want to talk about it because they think no one else is experiencing it," Kasey King, a USI graduate said.
