SPENCER CO., IN (WFIE) - Major renovations planned at South Spencer High School will give the building a brand new look.
School officials say renovations are long overdue and once they are complete, the school won't look anything like it does right now.
We are told plans include gutting the building and giving it a more modern look.
School officials say some of the changes include making the entire school ADA accessible, building a new athletic complex, and a new media center. They also plan to build new office spaces and update classrooms.
The superintendent said the main part of the renovation will be moving the entrance of the school to face Highway 61, to hopefully help clear up confusion on how to get inside.
School officials say the money saved in the budget allowed them to be able to do this, and they have been saving for years. While they didn't want to estimate the price, they tell us this project won't cost taxpayers a dime.
School officials say they have been in meetings all day Wednesday finalizing plans. In the December board meeting, they'll open bids and hopefully break ground shortly after that.
We are told the project will take at minimum a year and a half to complete.
