GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) - Both lanes are open after a serious crash with injuries in Gibson County.
According to Indiana State Police (ISP) Sergeant Todd Ringle, it happened on the southbound lanes of Highway 41 near Country Road 100 West around 3 p.m.
We are told a semi and two other vehicles were involved.
According to a press release, one of the drivers, Devin Cyr, 20-years-old, of Remington, Indiana, had to be extricated from his car and was taken to Deaconess Hospital. Cyr passed away early Sunday as a result of the injuries suffered in the crash, according to a press release from the Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office
We're told the semi, driven by 66-year-old Kent Hayenga was traveling southbound when for unknown reasons, the semi failed to stop and crashed into two stopped cars. Hayenga was cited for Speed too Fast to Avoid Collision.
The other driver, Dylan Barnes, 22-years-old, was in the other car and was taken to St. Vincent to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Both cars were totaled. The truck driver is ok.
Hayenga made his first court appearance on June 28. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide.?
