Final beam placed on new casino

Construction on Evansville's land-based casino reached a milestone Friday.

The final beam was put in place, marking the halfway point for the project.

Tropicana GM John Chaszar told us the casino will open before the end of the year. Crews stayed on schedule because of the mild winter.

Plans to move the casino to land were announced almost 2 years ago, and in July crews broke ground on the 75,0000 square foot casino.

Chaszar is looking forward to the next time a crowd gathers here, it'll be for the grand opening.

"Obviously, there's still a lot to do before we can do that," he said. "But hopefully this summer we can firm up a date for the grand opening here at the property."

The new casino will connect Le Merigot and Tropicana hotels. Inside will be two new restaurants, and an entertainment lounge.
