EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

An Evansville man is in jail on several charges after police say he tried to switch places with a passenger of the car he was driving.

Police say they were on patrol when they saw a car run a red light at Kentucky Avenue and Covert.

When they tried to pull the vehicle over, police say the driver tried to switch places with the back passenger while the car was still rolling. The car stopped after crashing into a parked car.

Police took 26-year-old Willie Carter into the custody.  They say he was the driver who tried to switch seats.

Officers say they found meth, marijuana, and a loaded gun in the car.

Carter is charged with dealing meth, possession of marijuana, and carrying a weapon with a prior conviction.
