EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The person killed in a shooting on Evansville's south side has been identified as 27-year-old Stedman Baird.

Baird's girlfriend, Chauna Reed, 25-years-old, of Evansville has been charged with murder. Reed is also being charged with narcotics dealing.

According to the coroner's office, Baird died from a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting happened early Tuesday morning at a triplex in the 1800 block of Plantation Ct., near Weinbach and Pollack.

Police say the call first came in as a welfare check and when they arrived on the scene, they found Baird inside the home. That's when they stepped out and made a call for a search warrant.

Officers got the warrant and were able to go inside the home to begin investigating just after 10 a.m. Crime scene technicians were seen gathering evidence outside the home before then.

Family and friends gathered outside the apartment today to remember Baird.
