Aces Men's soccer stays on the road

After picking up a draw over No. 13 Loyola on Saturday evening, it will be a quick turnaround for the University of Evansville men’s soccer program this week as the Purple Aces will set out for Nashville for a non-conference showdown with Belmont on Tuesday.

The Aces (6-6-2) will be aiming to put an end to a four-match winless streak that dates back to a 2-1 victory over Marshall on Sept. 28. That match also marked the lone midweek victory of the season for UE, but the team will be riding a little bit of momentum after Saturday’s hard-fought 1-1 draw against Loyola.

Prior to the match, UE was 0-3-0 against ranked opponents.

Jared Robinson, UE’s goal-scorer in the Loyola showdown, put an end to a personal scoring slump in the contest, finding the back of the net for the first time since Sept. 19. The senior ranks as one of the top scorers in the Missouri Valley Conference this season with five goals on the year, and as a whole, the team has put together a 3-1-1 record in matches in which the Powell, Ohio, native has scored.

Robinson is far from the only big scorer on the Aces roster, as he’s joined by Ian McGrath, who has cemented himself as one of the top players in the MVC this season with six goals, which is triple the number that he scored last season, a campaign that culminated with an all-conference honorable mention accolade.

Both McGrath and Robinson have relied upon more than just individual brilliance to find the back of the net, highlighted by the duo of Zac Blaydes and Jesse Stafford Lacey, which has combined for 11 assists so far this season.

Defensively, Frederik Reimer has been the top choice in net for the Aces and with four clean sheets on the season, he’s already doubled the team total for UE from a year ago.

Meanwhile, Belmont will be looking to put an end to a streak of their own on Tuesday. The Bruins are on a 12-match winless streak, and the team will be looking for its first victory since a 2-1 decision over Florida Atlantic on Aug. 28.

Kickoff from E.S. Rose Park is slated for 6:30 p.m.
