EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

An unusual "crime" scene happened Saturday on Darmstadt Road in Evansville.

A raccoon was run over on Saturday by a machine that was striping the side of the road.

One of our reporters left a message with the Indiana Department of Transportation officials to ask if they are in charge of maintenance on that road. We have yet to hear back from them.

An animal control representative did say that someone would be out to pick up the raccoon. Our reporter called Vanderburgh County Highway and Streets department, trying to figure out how the animal got painted over.

The investigation is still ongoing.
