Miles pleads not guilty during arraignment

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Well-known Daviess County Businessman Billy Joe Miles was arraigned on rape, sodomy, and bribing a witness charges Monday afternoon.

The 76-year-old pleaded not guilty to all charges.

In court, the prosecutor handling the case says the victim has been receiving threats and the victim's car has been vandalized.

The prosecutor asked Judge Joseph Castlen to ban Miles' employees and family from having contact with the victim. The prosecutor says there were two incidents this month where an employee and family member made contact. The other cases are still under investigation.

The prosecutor says the victim has been threatened, the victim's car has been keyed, and someone threw a hammer into the victim's car windshield as the victim drove down Highway 60.

On Saturday, the prosecutor says the victim was driving when their car caught fire. The prosecutor says the victim was able to pull over and was not hurt. Right now, the car is at the Kentucky State Police Post in Henderson where investigators are waiting on equipment to investigate the cause of the fire.

Sheriff's deputies say they responded to a sexual abuse call at Miles' home in the 1600 block of Barclay Avenue in July. That morning, deputies say a 29-year-old woman went to the hospital and reported being sexually assaulted by Miles.

Miles will have a pretrial conference on Friday, September 30, at 9:00am.
