GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) - In Gibson County, tearing down blighted homes Is at the top of county commissioner's to-do lists and, Oakland City residents are seeing the impact.
The county's big project to get rid of run down homes is moving right along. It's a Federally-funded program and the goal is to demolish More than 60 houses in 4 counties.20 in Oakland City, more than 30 in Princeton.
County Commissioner, Steve Bottoms says people who live there will notice it the most.
Bill Grubb lives next door in his childhood home. He watched it all come down Monday.
"I think we'll see the impact whenever they start building some affordable housing in town and getting the population up," Grubb said. "You know, we don't have as many people as we used to have. Our tax base has been destroyed and they need to do something to get it up."
