Evansville Rescue Mission adds more beds

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville Rescue Mission recently expanded their bed space to over 200 beds in their facility near downtown Evansville.

VP of Operations Josh Nichols tells us the rescue mission started filling up rapidly in the winter, so they added 42 more beds.

Nichols says it not only gives them the ability to help more people, but also provides better housing conditions for the ones that routinely need a place to stay.

“We were experiencing numbers of our capacity that were very high, so we recognized the need, based on the trends that we we're seeing and we knew there was a need in the community for that so we decided to do the expansion to increase the number of beds that we offer,” said Nichols.

Nichols says when the cold takes a break, that will help numbers go down.
