Henderson's Metzger's Tavern looking for partners to eventually take over

HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) - Henderson pub owners are looking for partners to eventually take over their business.

This comes after Metzger's Tavern on Powell Street received state-wide recognition for excellence.

Beans, soup, chili and dipped hot dogs. That's what Metzger's is known and loved for.

This was a surprising announcement after the bar and restaurant just won the title of Best Diner/Drive-In by Kentucky Living Magazine for 2016.

The owner, Steve Watkins, still wants to play a role at Metzger's for the time being.

Watkins tells 14 News he's owned the place for the past 10 years. But, the tavern dates back much longer than that. Watkins says it's been a family owned joint, handed down from generation to generation, since, get this, 1887.

"Eventually it will be with someone that's a little younger that can do the same thing that I've done," said Steve Watkins, Metzger's Tavern owner. "I want to keep it in the family but yet with the younger generation coming up, a younger owner coming has younger friends therefore they will come in and we'll keep the tradition going."

If you're interested in partnering at Metzger's, Watkins asks for you to call the Tavern directly.
