Pedestrian dies after being struck by Metra commuter train

RIVER GROVE, Ill. (AP) - A 55-year-old Chicago man was killed when he was struck by a commuter train west of the city.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the victim as James McHale. Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile says the train scheduled to arrive at 6:13 a.m. Monday was stopped shortly before 5 a.m. after the pedestrian was struck near the River Grove Station.

All trains in the area were halted until shortly before 7 a.m., when authorities opened two tracks.

An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday.
