Henderson officer receives national recognition

A Tri-State law enforcement officer is recognized on a national level.

Sgt. Jeff Welch with Henderson Police is now certified as a "Below 100" Trainer.

He's one of only 24 officers in the country to earn this certification.

The "Below 100" program trains law enforcement officers across the United States on identifying the leading causes and current trends in preventable line of duty deaths and injuries.

"1944 is the last time we were below 100, and we were at 99," said Henderson Sgt. Jeff Welch. "What we are trying to do is push this program across the nation so men and women in law enforcement are going home every night."

Officers are trained around the country in what they consider the 5 tenets of "Below 100": Wear your seat belt, Wear your vest, Watch your speed, Remember what's important now, and Remember that complacency kills.
