EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Turning a sad situation into something hopeful for the homeless.
That's what one Evansville dog shelter aims to do.
It Takes a Village Canine Rescue tries to take in as many dogs as possible throughout the year.
Recently, they brought in dogs from two families who were down on their luck.
The owners, both veterans, were homeless and unable to keep their pets in the shelters, so they turned to the rescue.
"They are helping us more than we're helping them, because we get back so much from knowing how much their beloved pet is not gonna end up in a shelter," said Susan Gainey-Odoyo. "Their beloved pet is gonna be some place safe and they'll be able to be returned to them when they have a more stable condition."
Sarah says the veterans are extremely appreciative for the help.
She adds, they're always looking for additional foster homes for the dogs.
