TELL CITY, IN (WFIE) - Students at Tell City Junior High celebrated the last day before a break with a little exercise.
For the fifth annual Turkey Trot, 7th and 8th grade students raced about a mile and a half.
The race was started as part of a grant to promote healthy activity - but has become a favorite event for the students.
Most of the winners this year are part of the school's track team. They say it's fun to see the school participating in their events.
"Some people don't really know if they're good or not," says Josh Perry, an 8th grader. "This is a good way to find out, that's how I went to cross country last year."
"If you show up and participate at school then we get rewarded and we can do fun stuff," says Ava Hilgenhold, an 8th grader. "If you work hard, it's going to pay off."
The school had more than $700 in prizes to give to the students when they were done.
By the way, the fastest time of the day was 8 minutes and 14 seconds.
