EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Officials say there's a multi-state bill payment scam that's re-surfacing in the U.S. and the Tri-State.
The scam artist is mostly targeting businesses, but some customers have also been contacted.
During the call, the person claims to be a representative with the utility company and warns the customer their utilities will be shut off if they don't make an immediate payment.
Customers are instructed to purchase a pre-paid debit card to do that.
Officials say they never require customers to do that.
If you get one of those calls, call police.
