National shortage of flu shot causing Tri-State doctors to cancel appointments

TRI-STATE (WFIE) -

A national shortage of the flu shot has doctors canceling appointments across the Tri-State.

We’re told the manufacturer, where local hospitals get their supply from, is running low.

Dr. Jill Smith, a pediatrician at St. Mary’s, says more should be available soon.

In the meantime, wash your hands, eat well, and get plenty of sleep.

Dr. Smith says there haven’t been any cases of the flu reported, but another virus is spreading rapidly among children.

The human parainfluenza virus is a virus that commonly causes things like croup and bronchitis in young children. In older kids and adults, it usually presents itself as a mild cold.
