EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer swept the final Great Lakes Valley Conference player of the week awards after a 2-0 victory over Bellarmine University. Freshman Kasper Bjoro was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Adam Zehme earned GLVC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Bjoro helped power the Eagles to a 2-0 triumph over Bellarmine last Wednesday with the game-winning goal and the assist that helped ensure victory. The win over Bellarmine earned USI a spot in the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2012. Bjoro's five goals during his freshman campaign are the most by a freshman at USI since Jeffrey McClure recorded six goals in his first season in 2009.
Zehme provided a strong force between the posts this season for the Eagles, including his sixth shutout and sixth victory against Bellarmine. Zehme ranks 18th nationally in goals against average (0.78) and 25thnationally in save percentage (.830)
The GLVC Player of the Week honors are the first for men's soccer since 2013 and the first sweep in program history.
The Screaming Eagles (8-7-3) saw their season end Sunday in a 1-0 loss at seventh-ranked Rockhurst in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. USI finishes the season with an overall record over .500 for the first time since 2012.
