St. Mary's obtains new piece of life-saving equipment for babies

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

St. Mary's Medical Center is showing off a new piece of life-saving equipment.

It's a neonatal transport isolette, which is essentially an incubator on wheels.

It will go in the back of an ambulance to transport babies who need intensive care.

On Wednesday, St. Mary's blessed the state-of-the-art unit, which was approved for use just last year.

"Everything is forward facing,” said Farrah Allen.  “So, as we're sitting in the back of that ambulance, we can have access to the patient and any buttons that we need."

St. Mary's is currently training its staff on the operation of the isolette and hopes to have it ready to use in the next couple of weeks.
