Dozens gather to rally against climate change in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Dozens of people gather to rally against climate change in Owensboro.

Local religious leaders and members of the Sierra Club held an interfaith rally outside Brescia University.

Speakers discussed the importance of conserving energy, stopping climate change, and celebrated OMU's recent announcement to close Elmer Smith Station's unit one.

“I've heard it said that if we try to do something about global warming or climate change it's going to hurt our economy,” said Rick Fowler.  “Like the Mayor of Miami Beach said when he saw the seawater coming up through the vents in the drainage.  He said if we don't do something now it's going to cost us a whole lot more.”

Moving forward, Sierra Club officials say they would like to see OMU transition into using clean energy.
