Evansville principal battling breast cancer, receives support from students and staff

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Students and staff members at Stockwell Elementary want their principal to know how much they care about her.

Right now, Principal Tijuana Tolliver is going through chemo therapy for breast cancer.

She was diagnosed June 3rd of this year and Monday was her first day back to work.

School Counselor Tom Higgs got the students together to make the video.

Tolliver says she's happy to be back where she belongs.

“Throughout my illness, I have been supported by so many people, and I’m very appreciative,” said Tolliver.  “But to have 600 plus students and my staff members form a heart in our courtyard, and chant ‘Mrs. Tolliver is Stockwell Strong,’ it means the world to me.”

Tolliver says she will continue her chemotherapy treatments for another 15 weeks.
