Volunteers serve lunch to Evansville police officers

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Volunteers are showing their thanks to the men and women in blue.

On Wednesday, more than 100 Evansville police officers were served lunch next to the Civic Center.

They enjoyed hamburgers and chips as a way to say thank you.

The effort was spearheaded by business owner Ron McKeethen.

"I put it on Facebook, I asked for some support on this and the support was overwhelming with some friends and family that came out,” McKeethen said.

“We wanted to be able to say thank you. They put their lives on the line every single day.  We just wanted to come out here as a driving force and say thank you and you are appreciated for everything that you do."

More than 20 volunteers were on hand to help out.
