Peer support group formed for first responders in Vanderburgh Co.

VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

A peer support group will benefit first responders in Vanderburgh County.

Two years ago, Deputy Tony Troopes was in the middle of an officer-involved shooting.

He says it was the police department's peer support group that helped him get back on his feet.

Now, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office is doing the same with a three-day training program for all emergency responders.

"Instances such as Logan Brown that happened on University Parkway, and my type of incident, an officer-involved shooting, those types of incidents create a lot of stress,” said Troopes.  “Paying it forward, with their request, we are now able to provide that training for them."

Deputy Troopes hopes to hold these forums once or twice a year.
