USI celebrates 50 years

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - One Evansville college has a big reason to celebrate.

The University of Southern Indiana is commemorating its 50th birthday.

On Tuesday, staff met for a Founder's Day Celebration.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke spoke at a luncheon and several alumni were awarded.

USI President Dr. Linda Bennett shared her goals and vision for the next 50 years.

"I think you're going to see continued expansion, and us getting into different program areas but also, our strong connection with the state and with the region," said Dr. Bennett.

The celebration continues Wednesday with a documentary highlighting the university's first 50 years.

It starts at 11 a.m. at the David L. Rice Library.

They'll show it again at different times throughout the week.
