OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Owensboro firefighters have collected around $9500 for the muscular dystrophy association.
Firefighters stood outside both Kroger stores in Owensboro this Labor Day weekend collecting money for their annual "Fill the Boot" campaign.
Firefighters say the funds will go towards muscular dystrophy research and a summer camp for kids effected by the disease.
"It feels good," said Joe Wright, an Owensboro firefighter. "We did better than we did last year. It feels great to see the community come out and support this."
Owensboro firefighters say more than 40 families in Daviess County are affected by muscular dystrophy.
