MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) - Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) needs volunteers to help the abused and neglected kids they serve in Hopkins County.
Officials with CASA say the number of children they serve continues to rise each year, but they're not able to match them all with volunteers to help the kids through the family court system.
Director Daphyne Maddox says they are currently working with 63 kids in Hopkins County. Thirty of them are not paired, though, with a volunteer.
She says those volunteers play a big role in a child's development.
"We know that kids that are represented by CASA volunteers in family court...they have a chance at getting more services," said Maddox. "They will achieve permanency quicker, later on in life they are not going to have like the teen pregnancy and incarceration rates, those rates are all going to be lower for them."
