New equipment to speed up fire rescues in Henderson

HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) -

In an emergency situation involving heights, Henderson city firefighters now have the ability to get you to safety much quicker.

The department just received two new pieces of equipment. They're called Multi-Purpose Devices.

Firefighters say without them, it could take up to 5 minutes to get to a victim in a tall building.

Now, firefighters can reach their victims in 30 seconds.

Captain Keith Brasher explains why Big Rivers bought the equipment for the department to use.

"We had an actual rescue down there several years ago, from one of the big smoke stacks, a little over 100 feet, we got them down safely, ever since then, they've been more than generous," said Captain Brasher.

We're told Big Rivers provided the funds for the equipment which totaled around $1,600.

The captain says they're hoping to purchase more in the future.
