Taking a Stand: Lifesaver Walk

Taking a Stand: Lifesaver Walk

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - This Saturday, we can all take steps to promote mental wellness in the Tri-State by participating in the LIFESAVERS WALK at the Evansville State Hospital.

The one-mile walk will raise money to support local awareness campaigns and educational efforts focused on the prevention of suicides in our community.

Mental wellness is an important issue in the Tri-State. It's often overlooked or not discussed due to the stigma that it may carry.

Janie Chappell of Deaconess Cross Pointe recently told 14NEWS that they are seeing more people with mental illness refusing to get help.

Over the next several weeks, WFIE will use "Taking A Stand" to give experts a platform to shed light on mental wellness.

We hope that by starting the conversation, we can help educate our community and bring awareness to the issue.

Registration for this Saturday's LIVESAVERS WALK begins at 8:00 am with the walk starting at 9:15am.

You can visit deaconess.com/lifesavers or call 812-471-4521 for more information.

The event is sponsored by The Southwest Indiana Suicide Prevention Coalition, Deaconess Cross Pointe, Brentwood Meadows and Within Sight, Southwestern Healthcare Inc and St. Mary's and Deaconess Hospitals.
