Fundraiser held for Owensboro Boys and Girls Club

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Kids at the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club in Owensboro were treated with steak while the adults ate burgers.

The Boys and Girls Club held their 33rd annual Steak and Burger Dinner on Wednesday.

It’s one of the club’s biggest fundraisers.

Several big name guests were in attendance, including former UK basketball star Cliff Hagan and Kentucky Sports Radio commentator Matt Jones.

Organizers say the fundraiser brings in $8,000 to $10,000.

“We serve 300 or 400 kids a day which means we got them off the street being supervised and doing the program and it pays dividends,” said Hagan.

The Wightman Unit of the Boys and Girls Club was supposed to close because of lack of funding.

A $51,000 donation from the Michael E. Horn Foundation will keep the unit open until at least December.

It's a whopping $867 billion package that renews the safety net for farmers. But it's the Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP) changes that are controversial. The bill calls for tougher work requirements for SNAP recipients, known as food stamps. It could cause millions of Americans to lose benefits. So, what would...
