Touchdown Live Blog- Week 1

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

It's that time of the year again!
High School football gets underway in the Tri-State on Friday night, which also means the 1st episode of Touchdown Live!

To kick the season off, our Game of the Week is the always entertaining matchup between Reitz and Henderson County. This is the 7th consecutive year that the Panthers and Colonels have opened the season up against each other.  Of course, the rivalry was kicked up a notch before the 2013 season, when Tony Lewis left Reitz to accept the head coaching position at Henderson County.

The Panthers are 5-1 against the Colonels dating back to 2009, with Henderson County's lone victory coming two years ago in a 24-21 classic. In his 1st game on the Henderson County sidelines, Lewis took the Colonels into the Reitz Bowl and beat his former team on their home turf. The Panthers got revenge last year, beating Henderson County by 21.

Last year's showdown was a sign of things to come for both squads in 2014.
The Colonels went on to finish with a disappointing 5-6 record, Henderson County's 1st losing season since 2007. Meanwhile, Andy Hape's Panthers went 11-2 and captured their 15th sectional championship in school history.

Reitz has a ton of experience coming back under center. Senior Evan Deig will lead the offense at quarterback, after throwing 32 touchdown passes and just four interceptions last year. Eight of those TDs landed in the hands of Kerrion Ringo, the Panthers most experienced wide receiver. They'll go up against a stacked Colonels defensive line that could cause some problems for the Reitz rushing attack.

As for the Henderson County offense, Damion Carter will carry the load after rushing for more than 1,000 yards in 2014. Carter will be hard to stop, but the Panthers secondary will make things tough for new Colonels quarterback Matt Watkins and his receivers.

Henderson County will have plenty of success in 2015, but Reitz will start the campaign off with a 'W.'
Prediction: Reitz- 27, Henderson Co.- 20

So who do you think will win- the Panthers or the Colonels? Vote in our poll at the top of this page!

After Friday's game, the results of the poll will be revealed during Touchdown Live.

Enjoy opening night!!

The Republican-led House narrowly passed the Farm Bill on Thursday. The GOP-backed measure, which covers food and farm policy legislation, passed 213-211. It's a whopping $867 billion package that renews the safety net for farmers. But it's the Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP) changes that are controversial. The bill calls for tougher work requirements for SNAP recipients, known as food stamps. It could cause millions of Americans to lose benefits. So, what would...
