Huntingburg Police raise funds for K-9 officer

HUNTINGBURG, IN (WFIE) - The Huntingburg Police Department is looking for a narcotics K-9.

The town's police force hasn't had a dog for 8 years, and buying one won't be cheap.

Officer Josh Hemmer tells us it will cost about $8,000 to purchase a police canine---money the department just doesn't have in its budget.

So, the police department is asking for donations to help fund the new four-legged addition.

"It's going to be a great asset to help us get more drugs off the street, and make us a better city," said Hemmer.  "There's annual training that you have to keep up with, and then all the other equipment that goes along with it.  We have to buy an insert that goes in the vehicle to keep the dog, food, leashes, toys."

The police department has established a GoFundMe page to accept donations.
