Cold Case Solved: Deborah Cioe

February 28, 1997

Perry County, Indiana

On 4/16/2009 a pair of Perry County cousins were indicted by a grand jury in the murder of Debra Cioe.

Indiana State Police detectives are hoping you can help them solve a murder case. 21-year-old Deborah Cioe of Tell City, Indiana was found murdered February 28, 1997 in a rural wooded area, several yards off a gravel road, about five miles north of Tobinsport, Indiana.

Her purse and identification were found about a half mile away on the side of the gravel road.

Detectives say she was dressed and didn't appear to be sexually assaulted. Her personal items were still in her purse, indicating robbery wasn't a motive.

Indiana State Police investigators believe Cioe knew her killer because they say it appears the murder took place where her body was found and it's unlikely she would go to such a rural area with a stranger.

Cioe was last seen alive a week earlier in Cannelton, Indiana. Detectives say it's possible she was dead for a week when her body was found.

Autopsy results showed Deborah Cioe died of numerous stab wounds.

If you have any information about the murder of Deborah Cioe contact Detective G.L. Belcher at the Indiana State Police Post in Jasper at 1-800-742-7475.
