EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The Evansville Police Department Foundation has received $10,000 from the Motorola Solutions Foundation to help fund three citizen's academies this year.
These academies are very popular and give the public an opportunity to learn safety and get an overall education about what goes on in all facets of the department.
The classes meet one night a week, for 10 weeks, for 3 hours.
"We bring in different people from different areas of the police department and they talk about what their specific assignment is, like we'll have somebody come in and talk about investigations," said Brad Hill, Chief Deputy of Special Projects. "It's a good community relations tool. A lot of times people misunderstand what we're doing and why we do what we do and this helps bring understanding."
Hill says the department has received many job applicants from people who have attended the citizen academy.
