VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) - Traffic is picking up now that school is back in session and that means more law enforcement patrol.
Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding encourages drivers to allow plenty of time for their commute, since school zones and bus stops will add to traffic.
Also, look out for kids walking to school and waiting at bus stops.
He says it just comes down to being aware of your surroundings and patience.
"It is common sense," Wedding says. "A little courtesy and certainly planning your routes in advance. If you know you traditionally drive by a school in the morning, you might want to take another route or leave a little bit earlier or a little bit later in your morning or afternoon commute."
Sheriff Wedding says they typically see an increase in accidents during the school year.
He says at least one deputy will be at each county school for the next week.
