DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) - The Daviess County Sheriff's Office and Daviess County Schools teamed up for active shooter training.
Deputies and teachers gathered at Burns Elementary to practice how they might handle a shooter scenario.
Deputies tell 14NEWS it's the first time they've conducted this drill.
They hope the exercise will prepare teachers.
"This training represents the next step in a journey we started a number of years ago on a working partnership with the Daviess County school system," said Alan Youngman.
"After Sandy Hook, like everybody else in this country, we started looking at what we really need to do to ensure that our kids are as safe as we can make them."
The sheriff's office hopes to partner with the school district by holding these kind of training sessions in the years to come.
