WHITE PLAINS, KY (WFIE) - Kentucky State Police is investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a White Plains man.
It happened Wednesday night around 10 p.m. in the 300 block of Apex-Orange Rd.
According to a release from state police, 54-year-old Donnie Mannahan, of White Plains, pounded on the door of Donald Bourland, his neighbor. The release says Mannahan was cursing and threatening to kill everyone inside the home and set it on fire.
After being told to leave, KSP says Mannahan broke through the front door and entered. Bourland responded, firing one round that hit Mannahan's chest.
"I had to do what I had to do to defend me and my wife," Bourland told 14NEWS.
Mannahan was pronounced dead on the scene by the Christian County coroner.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday in Madisonville.
