No deal for EVSC, Teamsters

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Right now, the the EVSC and Teamsters union don't have a contract.

It expired Tuesday at midnight.

The school board's negotiation team and Teamsters Local 215 leadership met Tuesday morning but failed to reach an agreement.

The EVSC says the Teamsters haven't addressed the school board's two main concerns. One is the contract requirement that the EVSC deduct money from employee paychecks for Teamsters 215 dues. The second, the school board says, concerns its authority to make final employment and financial decisions for the EVSC.

Chuck Whobrey, the president of Local 215, says that the EVSC never had any intention of reaching an agreement with the union. He said it is nothing but, "union busting."

The nearly 680 EVSC employees represented by the Teamsters are mostly bus drivers, secretaries and custodians.
